• Detecting smoking events from consumer wearable data — Can a cigarette be detected from a Fitbit without logging it? No. Four instruments were frozen, pre-registered and blind-tested on ten unseen days; all four failed their written bar. Three of four textbook signatures never reach the export, about two in seven cigarettes leave no cardiovascular trace, and knowing the day's true count buys nothing at all. (11 August 2026)
